Carroll School Green Roof
We proposed a new 22,000 sf extensive green roof on a NYC public elementary school that revealed the ecological and aesthetic value of an unused urban space. The $2.3 million project was presented to the school community and the district’s council member as a natural extension of the school’s curriculum and expanded on the already successful after school and enrichment garden programs. If funds are made available through the SCA, plants will grow year round in a new greenhouse while a native species garden marks seasonal change. An outdoor classroom meeting area and the weather station further enhances the interdisciplinary educational opportunities that a green roof can provide.
