Carroll Gardens Brownstone I

In the Carroll Gardens Historic District in Brooklyn, we renovated an existing 1878 brownstone that once belonged to the last queen of Sikkim. This three-bedroom private residence with a new extension was updated with modern amenities while preserving its historical charm. We selected salvaged pine to create a large sliding panel in the library and the kitchen was detailed with FSC-certified douglass fir cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and Pietra Cardosa stone countertops. The main bathroom was finished with Basaltina stone and fresco plaster, complete with an open shower and underfloor heating for added comfort. On the garden level, we used reclaimed wood floors from pine barn timbers, adding a touch of rustic charm. To create more living space, we excavated the cellar to include a recreational room, work area, storage, and a laundry room. We focused on using materials to align with the client's sustainability goals, resulting in a warm and inviting home that honors its historical roots.
